​About the Role

The Business Systems Analyst:

 

  • Has prime accountability for converting system requirements into system functionality. The Business Systems Analyst may have also been involved with the authoring of the System Requirements.
  • Will co-ordinate preliminary design (technical and software with the Application Development Analyst and Infrastructure resources as required) and is responsible for the detailed design of the system.
  • Supports, directs and guides the delivery team through the development phases of the project, and supports the functional test and acceptance test phases. The Business System Analyst will also ensure industry as well as in-house standards are followed throughout the delivery process.
  • Constructs estimates for deliverables using standard industry practices and tools. These estimates will feed the delivery plan and schedule.
  • Ensures the scope control/change control principles are applied to the delivery process, and a delivery schedule and plan is constructed. The Business System Analyst is also responsible to manage the delivery according to the agreed upon schedule, providing status reporting and risk identification throughout the delivery process.
  • Is responsible for work assignments within the defined project, and assisting with work plans with the team members where required.
  • Coaches/mentors resources as required.
  • Participates/ makes key decisions regarding the development of the system and is responsible for the integrity of the system/project being delivered.

Your Experience & Skills

•    A university degree in computer science or related field, such as mathematics, engineering or physics, plus a minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, the definition of business requirements, the design of business systems, or leading of teams and planning efforts.
OR
•    A university degree plus completion of a 1-year certificate program in business computing from a recognized technical school, plus a minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, the definition of business requirements, the design of business systems, or leading of teams and planning efforts.
OR
•    Graduation from a community college or technical school 2-year or 3-year program in business computing, plus a minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, the definition of business requirements, the design of business systems, or leading of teams and planning efforts.
AND
•    A minimum of two years’ experience with the responsibility for the design and delivery of solutions in a Guidewire and/or WEB environment. Also, a minimum of two years experience in IT project management and the use of a planning tool i.e. Microsoft Project.

•    Understanding of / Experience with N-Tier applications.

•    Experience leading a team of developers on small to medium projects.


Exposure to, or familiarity with, the following systems, technologies, and concepts is considered an asset:
•    Enterprise platforms such as Guidewire, ServiceNow, Microsoft Power Platform, Oracle Cloud, and SAP 
•    Microsoft development concepts, including .NET-based applications and general understanding of web and API-driven solutions 
•    System integration concepts, including APIs, data exchange (e.g., REST/JSON), and interactions between enterprise systems 
•    Software delivery lifecycle (SDLC) tools and practices, including Agile methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira 
•    Data and reporting concepts, including basic understanding of relational databases and data structures 
•    Awareness of application architecture and design principles
