About the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia

The Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCB) is the province’s provider of workplace injury insurance. We inform and inspire Nova Scotians in the prevention of workplace injury. But if it occurs, we support those whose lives it touches by championing a timely return to safe and healthy work. We also provide caring, compassionate support in the wake of workplace tragedy. Our employees describe the culture as Collaborative, Evolving, Service-Minded and Team-Focused.

About the Role

WCB has changed.  We are an accountable organization committed to helping injured workers recover and safely return to work. We are seeking a Health Services Portfolio Manager (HSPM) who is passionate about healthcare that delivers measurable recovery and return-to-work (RTW) outcomes while ensuring value for money.  Reporting to Health Services leadership, the HSPM is a key member of the Health Services team and works collaboratively across WCB to advance RTW-focused, outcome-driven health services. This role is accountable for the end-to-end management of a portfolio of health services programs, projects, and initiatives designed to prevent work disability and support optimal recovery.

Key Responsibilities

The HSPM leads the development, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of health services programs. Grounded in evidence and best practice, the role ensures programs are timely, effective, and aligned with organizational priorities. The HSPM provides program insights, performance reporting, and guidance to internal teams to support consistent and effective use of services.

Vendor accountability is central to this role. The HSPM manages the performance of healthcare programs, service providers, and health care advisors to ensure WCB achieves strong RTW outcomes and value for investment. This includes monitoring performance, addressing issues proactively, and maintaining regular communication with service provider groups and the broader healthcare community.

The HSPM anticipates and responds to risks and challenges, working with internal and external partners to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
