​About the Role

The Data Analyst is assigned to Business Data & Analytics and must specialize in data analysis and management. The Data Analyst participates in ITS projects as the data specialist and must focus on ensuring that any System development or enhancements meet the WCB’s Information Architecture and Data Quality standards; ensures that Data Quality is appropriately tested and verified within all our production systems; ensures that any changes to the WCB’s databases are properly structured, designed, and documented. The Data Analyst also maintains knowledge of current methodologies and technologies regarding information management, data design, and decision support systems; supports internal users of the WCB’s Data Resource; as well as participates in Data Quality/Stewardship efforts.

 

Also, the Data Analyst has specific Data Warehouse responsibilities:

 

  • Manages the data architecture of the Data Warehouse and makes recommendations regarding improvements/enhancements to the architecture that will increase the benefits the Board is able to derive from the Data Warehouse. This involves developing a strong working relationship with the WCB’s Technical Infrastructure Group and Statistical Research Officers/Analysts; and maintaining a current knowledge regarding Data Warehouse solutions.

 

  • Act as the Data Analyst and Data Design for any future Data Warehouse initiatives.

Employees have access to sensitive and/or confidential information provided by the Canada Revenue Agency for the purpose of carrying out the duties of this position. Therefore, a satisfactory security check is a requirement for this role. A security check consists of a confidential criminal record check conducted through the Human Resources department. Renewal of the security check is required every ten years. An offer of employment is conditional upon obtaining a satisfactory security check. 

Your Experience & Skills

  • A university degree in computer science or related field, such as mathematics, engineering, information Management or physics

Plus

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis and data/information management as well as project management, the definition of business requirements, and leading teams and planning efforts

OR

  • A university degree

Plus

  • Completion of a one year certificate program in business computing from a recognized technical school,

Plus

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis and data management as well as project management, the definition of business requirements, and leading teams and planning efforts

OR

  • Graduation from a community college or technical school two or three year program in business computing,

Plus

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis and data management as well as project management, the definition of business requirements, and leading teams and planning efforts.

 

As well, rated technical qualifications for the Data Analyst include the following:

  • Experience with BI tools for Extract Transform Load (ETL).
  • Reporting.
  • Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and data metrics / analytics.
  • Data replication tools SQL to SQL).
  • Data Modeling / Database Design (Relational, Star Schema).
  • Latest version(s) of Microsoft SQL Server (including the components of SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Configuration, performance tuning and maintenance for database optimization.
  • Design/Implementation of the data access layer.
  • Data Documentation, and Cognos Framework Manager.

 

Desireable Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft in Fabric Data Factory, Data Engineering, Data Warehouse workloads, and/or Databricks.
  • Experience in a Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) development environment; knowledge of GitHub, Azure DevOps.
  • Proficiency in Python, experience utilizing PySpark.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview Data Map and Unified Catalog.
